Charles Babbage

Date of Birth: Charles Babbage was born on December 26, 1791

Date of Death: Charles Babbage died when he was 79 on October 18, 1871

Charles Babbage was a mathematician and inventor known as the Father Of The Computer. . He is the person who designed the Analytical Engine, a groundbreaking design that advanced Computer Science greatly. The Analytical Engine included modern ideas like the central processing unit (CPU), memory and the use of punched cards for input and programming.

Charles Babbage also designed a mechanical calculator called the Difference Engine . This design was able to automate and calculate complex math and other computations. These designs introduced principles such as a structure and machines . Babbage was able to design many great technological items in his life time. He was also able to accomplish many other things in other fields. He was not able to build his technological designs due to some limitations.

Babbage sadly, was never able to finish a working model for the Analytical Engine due to financial and technology limitations. His designs were able to lay the theoretical groundwork for future Computer Engineers to build off and finally create some of the modern computing technologies that we see in the modern world.

Today, he is remembered not only for his mechanical designs like the Analytical Engine, he is also praised for his foresight on how machines could change the way humans handle information. He is one of the most important figures in the history of computing as without him, it would take much longer to create designs for the CPU, memory and inputing technology.
