Professional Writing and Rhetoric, MA

The English department at GMU offers five professional writing programs:

  • PhD in Writing and Rhetoric
  • MA in Professional Writing and Rhetoric (PWR)
  • Graduate Certificate in PWR
  • BA concentration in Writing and Rhetoric
  • Minor in Writing
  • With the core faculty members leading the way, the PWR programs strives to best support its students with multiple classes offered, research support, and continuous learning experiences. The PWR program falls under the department of English and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. With a focus on writing and rhetoric, the PWR program is founded on the premise that writing is not merely a skill, it functions in different ways depending on disciplinary context, genre, medium, and the relationship between author and reader.
