If a team believes that their answer to a particular question on a Readiness
Assessment Test (RAT) is as good as, or better than, the one designated
as correct by your instructor, the team may submit a written appeal.
Purposes of the Appeals Process
1) To clarify uncertainty about your understanding of the concepts.
2) To provide additional recognition & credit when "missing"
a question was due to:
· ambiguity in the reading material
· ambiguity in the wording of a question
· disagreement between the reading material and the answer provided
Guidelines for Preparing Successful Appeals
Procedures:
· Teams may appeal, but not individuals (though one individual may construct
a team's appeal)
· If the instructor grants the appeal, the points are granted only to
the team that appeals (not the entire class)
· There are appeals forms in your team folder; fill it out and return
it to the folder for grading
Appeals are granted when they demonstrate either:
· That you understood the concept(s) when you answered the questions,
or
· that your lack of understanding was due to ambiguity in the reading
material.
If the appeal is based on either inadequacies in the reading material or
disagreement with the answer provided, you must:
· fill out an Appeals Form
· state your reason(s) for disagreeing with the answer provided, and
· provide specific references from the reading material to support your
view.
If the appeal is based on ambiguity in the question, you must:
· fill out an Appeals Form
· spell out why you thought the question was ambiguous and,
· offer an alternative wording that would have helped you to avoid the
problem.
