Horse Forum - The 4-H Horse Forum meets bimonthly on the second Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Pennino Building. The Forum provides educational/business meetings for all interested horse project youth and adults from each 4-H Horse Club. The Forum coordinates and conducts countywide activities held to further the development of skills and knowledge in horse science for all 4-H members and to provide opportunities for leadership experience. Activities include the horse show at the 4-H County Fair, the Spring Open Horse Show, Hippology, Horse Judging, and Horse Bowl.

 

Horse Committee - Elected by the Horse Forum, the Horse Committee is made up of Horse Department Superintendents and Adult Advisors. The Committee coordinates all aspects of the Fairfax County 4-H Fair Horse Show. The Horse Committee reports to the Fair Board.

 

Hippology - A written contest of horse knowledge where you are tested on horse selection, identification, general knowledge and more. Members may compete at County and District levels, members aged 14-19 may also compete at State and National levels.

 

Horse Bowl - Study and participate as a team for this oral competition where you are tested on your knowledge of horses. Members may compete at District and State levels, youth aged 14-19 may be eligible to compete at National levels.

 

Horse Judging - Learn to select the best horse to suite your needs and/or the best representative of its breed.

 

Horse Presentations - Compete as a team or individual, where you demonstrate your knowledge of a horse topic. You can compete at County and District levels. Youth aged 14-19 may compete at State, Regional, and National levels.

 

Horse Camp - For youth ages 9-13, in the beginner to intermediate skill level. Bring your horse to camp for riding lessons and to learn basic horse knowledge. You will also have time to swim, attend campfires and participate in recreational activities.

 

Horsemaster's Camp - This is a camp for the youth aged 14-19. Instructors from various collegiate horse programs, plus other instructors, conduct both riding lessons and ground school. This event is held at Lexington Horse Center.
