Often with design, the author forgets, as we saw in “Vniverse” and “Stained Word Window.” The thought is there, but often times the author forgets that the words are not on a flat white piece of paper. “Stained Word Window” is actually written by Larsen, which really surprises me. “Window” and “Firefly” are on two different spectrums of design style. “Firefly” is well designed with distinguishable colors and intriguing pictures in the background that add to the emotions of the website. The other hypertext that was poorly designed was “Vniverse”, the beginning sequence of “Vniverse” is well designed but it gets lost in all of the text colors.
“Stained Word Window” is a lost cause from the opening screen. We are a visual society, things and colors need to be appealing, especially if you are an author trying to get people to read and be interested in reading more. This applies to what Lindow said about the “individual lexias should satisfy readers and yet prompt them to want to follow additional links.
Color is not everything though, the design for “Stained Word Window” is out of date, it was produced in 1999. This does not leave out “Firefly” though, it was produced in 2003, and there are some new possibilities for that design to be reinvented.
