Easy Steps to Follow
This is an example of what your computer area should not look like.

This persons workstation cries out for eyestrain. Let's take a look and see what they can do to have a better computer area.
1. Reflected glare. Glare coming from a light or window can affect how your eyes are handling the strain of the monitor.
2. Contrast. This person's area is not horrible here, but you want to have contrast around your screen, why? Because you want to find a way to darken the area around your screen to bring out the letters and images.
3. Light. How much light do you need? Every person is different. The older you get, most likely the more light you will need.
4. Distance. When looking at your computer screen you chould keep it at a distance where you can still read the print. If you find yourself scrunching your nose up to your screen you should do something about your font or get a new screen. Oh by the way you schould be BLINKING!!! The standard answer is about 22 inches away.
5. Rest. Your eyes need a rest just like your back and fingers while sitting at a computer. A good rule is the 20/20 rule taken from Office-Ergo.com. For every 20 minutes that you look at a computer screen, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Pretty easy.
6. Monitor position. Sit up above your monitor. Do not look up to it. If you look down more of your eyelids will be covered and your eyes will not dry out and strain as much.
