Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Voices Concern Over the Current Perception of the Republican Party

By : Will Scullion

While speaking to students from three different universities, Michael Steele, a former Maryland Leiutenant Governor, discussed the negative perception around the Republican party.

Steele spoke to students from Pace University, Denver University and George Mason University about the current political landscape via teleconference from the C-Span studios in Washington D.C.

Steele is now the chairman of GOPAC, a grassroots political organization that recruits young Republicans for public office.

Steele made it clear during the conference that he does not agree with the perception that the Republican party is not the party for the environment.

"Republicans, we're the original green party," Steele said. "So I sit here and scratch my head today as we reel back on our heals from the idea of being pro-environment."

Steele also fielded questions from the students.

Megan from Pace University addressed the perception that Steele is more of a real person compared to most politicians.

"I've always had this sense of calling," Steele said. "This sense of public service. I concluded that my call and my oppurtunities lie out here in the public domain."

Steele also spoke at length about a popular set of ads that he ran during his last run for political office.
