Connect Mason is a collaboration effort between our own Connect Mason daily news team, GMU Student Media groups and you.

Benson Enson, my oddly-named blog, stores Digital Writing assignments and allows me to release the HATE I feel toward people who refuse to participate in Connect Mason.

The ASSIGNMENT to remix Creative Commons works into a new creation.

By hampshiregirl

The above remix project uses the following sources:

Librivox reading of Frederick Nietzsche's Twilight of the Idols, "How the True World Ultimately Became a Fable."

Internet Archive's copy of Inubis0001, "Devil's Lake."

Flickr photos (attributed in the slideshow), all Creative Commons remix-friendly.

Explanation: I started this project with three separate pieces and mashed them together to create a new whole. Using Audacity, I mixed the Nietzsche reading with "Devil's Lake" to create a somber, almost foreboding undertone. On Flickr, I constrained my image search to those photos that appeared only under the term: "world" and a Creative Commons license. Past these constraints, however, I allowed myself to pair the photos with the audio as I interpreted Nietzsche's ramblings.

Both the reading and the photos are meant to stand out in the forefront. Try listening to the track without viewing the photos, or vice versa. I bet the meaning you take from this project isn't the same without all three separate, yet whole parts.

This creation holds on to the following rights. Click on the 'captions' and 'credits' options to see where I found the original pieces.
