Lemon, a Poem...
“The Lemon, a Poem, by Pat. Pindar, in Answer to a Scandalous Libel, entitled, The Orange; Written [tho' Anonymous] by the Reverend Dr. Bobadil,” expresses the views of the moderate (but not revolutionary) opposition to the position of the Protestant Ascenancy as expressed in “Orange.”
These images are of the second edition of the poem. The Connolly Collection at Catholic University also includes the first edition, which carries the same publication and invocation dates. I chose this edition even though the first edition is in slightly better condition because the second edition includes an additional note to the reader on the last page that is not included in the first edition. The pages of this poem were very tightly cropped, and the print itself is fainter than that of the other poems.
