Technology advances result in manufacturers focusing on safety measures; instead of the look and the speed of the automobiles and at the same time ensure comfort in the vehicle. One of the new features in modern day cars is the global positioning system (GPS). This GPS assists the driver when they are in need of help in situations such as being lost on the road. The GPS also helps drivers recover stolen vehicles by an integrated automobile security system. GPS programs are programmed to notify the car owner by phone or e-mail when the car alarm is triggered as well as provide information of when and where it happened (Robinson 76). The GPS system is an expensive system to be added to a car yet it is very helpful in many ways. It’s advancing very quick and new GPS systems are developed every year focused mostly on improving the older version of the system for better signals and as well as more “user friendly features.” (Robinson, 73). This system will enable the driver to continue to drive without stopping at a dangerous location and looking at a map. The GPS also has a talking feature that is hands free increasing the driving safety precautions.
Technology is advancing very quickly and new features are being added to new cars each year to ensure safety as well as comfort and luxury. They are the major factors in changing the way cars are being made and for what purposes they are being used for in the consumer’s everyday routine. With the focus of inventing a new car each year shifting to safety precautions, newer systems and devices are being added to the car each year (Consumer Guide, 24). With new safety restraint devices such as the seatbelts, airbag, and the GPS systems, they have greatly minimized the rate of serious injuries as well as fatalities greatly in accidents each year (Robinson, 82). Although the features are expensive when adding to the car, but it highly ensure the safeties of the driver as well as the passengers in the vehicle when on the road. Even though there are many new safety devices not all of them are included as an option for the cars. They are brought separately and installed with fees and charges that could cost up to thousands of dollars. This is another barrier of why consumers are having the state of the art safety restraint devices.
With new devices coming out everyday to help increase the safety rate each day scientists in laboratory are testing many different new safety restraint equipment. As technology as well as science has advanced through time it is not impossible to say that in the near future these automobiles will be highly equipped with up to date technology which will result in being the safest place to be. Another factor that could be considered in increasing safety rates when driving are drugs, alcohol, and driving aggression. These three factors contribute in a great percentage of accidents occurring everyday. Even though new technologies are being developed each day to ensure safeties we should not however rely on them too much but change the bad habits when driving.
