MEMORANDUM Date: October 13, 2004 To: Dr. Jim Henry From: Grisel Peña, Susan Ugoji, and Jennifer Borwey Regarding: Elevator World Progress Report Scope: Grisel, Susan, and Jennifer are writing an article for Elevator World magazine. This article is designed to inform readers about new technology in the elevator field, as well as update readers on the status of implementing the new technology, its benefits, and where it is headed. Jim Coaker, the chairman of the New Technology Committee, is our contact and is our main resource to important information, such as the need for a new safety code being drafted. He wrote and article for the May 2004 issue of Elevator World introducing readers to the New Tech. In the August 2004 issue, Marvin Jacobs responded with concerns to Coaker’s article. Our job is to respond to Jacobs’ article and correct misconceptions voiced. We have done extensive research to acquire knowledge in this field. Work Completed: As a group, we have met on seven different occasions and have successful completed what we originally set out to do. Below is a list of work completed as a group:
The next list is work completed individually:
We have now set up an outline for the organization of the article and are prepared to start a draft. We did face some challenges, such as feeling overwhelmed with the amount of research required to be familiar with terminology, and rescheduling meetings. Projected Work and Schedule: We plan to individually begin composing the article. Susan is in control of the section regarding the new products, designs, and benefits because she has done extensive research in that area. Grisel will write the section about the status of the new standards draft, along with the direction it is headed and short term milestones. Jennifer will write the section addressing the concerns and criticisms posed by Marvin Jacobs. In the article, we must maintain a positive tone and attitude. We have given ourselves ten days from now, Nov. 8th, to write our individual parts. From there, we will pull our writings together to complete a draft and revise for the final product. We plan to meet with Jim Coaker again in the revising stage to include his input and make sure the article is satisfactory. |
