I have a theory of the world that all of the problems between people could be solved if we just all learned to communicate better.  Everything that goes wrong is a product of not listening and misunderstanding.  Or so that is my theory.  The New Century College competency of communication has been the most valuable to me.  I think that the whole First Year Experience hinges on communication.  From small groups to large groups it is essential.
I, personally, love talking and writing, though do not always contribute anything substantial.  I am constantly on AIM or writing messages on white boards through the hall.  Even that little bit of getting in touch helps keep open the lines of friendship.  I spend outrageous amounts of time emailing, text messaging, or instant messaging.  In fact when I am away from any of my means of communication I feel lost.
A key to living together and getting along is communicating.  It helps you to feel important or part of a community.  All that is important to my life requires and aids communicating: my door, my room, my friends, my family, my everything.
