Instructions for Organic Chemistry Exams |
You will be asked to show a George Mason University ID card when you turn in your exam, for every exam. Bring a Form No. 882-E Scantron and a #2 pencil. You must have this scantron version. Please sit in alternate seats if the room is large enough: no more and no less than one empty seat between two people. Do not bring any scratch paper; there is enough space provided on the exam. Electronic devices of any type are not allowed. A Periodic Table will be given to you to use. You may use molecular models on any exam. When the exams are distributed, you should notice the statement that tells you to keep the exam face down until you have been told you may begin. You should notice also the statement that tells you not to write anything on that back page. Put your answers to the multiple choice questions on both the Scantron and the exam paper. (You may not view your Scantron after the exam if you did not circle your answers on the exam pape during the exam). You should be sure the two answers are identical. If your answers on the Scantron and your exam paper are different, only the answer on the Scantron will be graded. In the rare instance where there is an issue with the Scantron, your exam paper will be graded. Scantrons will not be returned. Please turn in your exam when requested at the end of the class period. It is important that students who turn in their exams when requested know that others have not been allowed extra time. You must have filled out the Scantron before the end of exam. No extra time will be permitted for this. I will post grades on BlackBoard and return the exam papers after I finish grading. Thereafter, you can pick them up outside my office. The exam and answer key will be posted on Bb. Scantron image
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About The ExamThe exam score is the number of points you received for correct answers (25 questions; 4pts./question; maximum 100). The points you earn for successful completion of the Homework assignmests is extra credit and will be added to your exam score. The total of exam score + HW is your exam grade. The answer key for the exam is posted on BlackBoard. Please look at the answer key carefully. I try to give detailed answers to many of the questions on the key so you can see how the problem is solved. You can pick up your exam paper after grades are posted. I will retain the Scantron. If you think there is an error in grading your exam, please see me soon. This does not include checking your answers on the Scantron because you did not put your answers on the exam itself (as stated in the exam instructions). As usual, if you have any questions about anything, please come by my office. My office hours are the most convenient for me, but I can also meet by appointment. For each exam, I provide (on BlackBoard) some statistical information: the highest and the lowest exam grades, as well as the numerical grade which I correlate with a mid-C letter grade.
