Remarks:
By 1968 Pontiac dropped the "Tiger" image due to demands from upper management. So the advertising agency tried a new angle. This ad contained a hidden meaning that was probably above anything the average U.S. driver would recognize. But for the young "motor heads," the meaning was obvious and hence the second part of the ad's text was directed towards any would-be street drag racer. Detroit's Woodward Avenue was the preeminent drag racing street in the country. So why would the two men be waiting at the end of Woodward Avenue in a 1968 GTO? Looking for a race, perhaps? Pontiac management thought so and pulled the ad after one month as GM did not sponsor or condone drag racing.
