Fireworks that have halos of USA around the sparks!

This course is the ultimate reflection of one's past, present, and future! It began as an adventure and resulted in much soul searching to determine my next career step! I began the course as a student in the Master’s Program and I am completing this course about to embark on a quest for acceptance into the Ph.D. program! Ten years ago I was a general education teacher with a fear of starting a Master's Program. A budding interest in helping students with special needs and a major change in my life pushed me beyond the fear!

I began taking courses in special education and started a new program in a private school as the contact for 13 public elementary schools. I became a case manager for all the students with special needs in our school.  I was in charge of communication between the teachers in our school and the IEP teams in the public schools.  Implementation of all the Individual Education Plans began with observations, collaboration, and travel to other schools.  It continued with communicating the details of each IEP to the home room teachers, giving direct services, and reporting progress to parents and the public schools.  I was given a laptop and didn’t even know how to turn it on! I hadn’t heard of Assistive Technology, yet today, as an Assistive Technology Specialist, I am searching for ways to change the lives of others to a positive direction using technology that is all-pervading.

I have organized and reviewed my resume, my experience, my courses, and my opportunities.  They have steered me toward the beginning of a new dream!
