A SIMPLE TWO - STEP PRIMER for:
Downloading MS Excel Files

This primer describes how to download a Microsoft Excel Data File using the Netscape Navigator 3.02 and 4.01, and the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 on a computer with Windows 95 operating system. If you are using a different browser or an earlier / later version of the above mentioned browsers, or a different operating system, you should still be able to use this primer because the steps should be very similar.

NOTE: FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE YOU MAY WANT TO PRINT THE PRIMER !

STEP 1:

By clicking on the button named "Download MS Excel Data". This button is located in the problem area, as shown in the Figure 1. The browser should prompt the user to the screen shown on Figure 2 (Netscape Navigator 3.02) or Figure 3 (Microsoft Internet Explorer). (Note: Netscape Navigator 4.01 shows a similar picture as the one shown on Figure 3.)

Step 2, Option 1 (Suggested)

Select "Pick App..." (Netscape Navigator 3.02) or "Open it" (Netscape Navigator 4.01 and MS Internet Explorer 3.02) if you would like to have your browser run MS Excel automatically after downloading this file. In the future you will not be prompted to this window.

The program might ask you to tell it the location of your "Excel.exe" file. You might want to choose "Browse" to find the directory where Microsoft Excel is located.

Note: For Netscape Navigator 4.01 and MS Internet Explorer 3.02: unless you have checked the box "Always ask before opening this type of file".

Step 2, Option 2

Select "Save File..." (Netscape Navigator 3.02) or "Save it to disk" (Netscape Navigator 4.01 and MS Internet Explorer 3.02) if you want to save the file to your local hard drive and then run MS Excel to open this file. If you select this option you will be prompted to select a directory where you want this file to be saved. You will need to know the directory where you have saved this file in order to later open it with MS Excel.
