Problem 1

Delineate the watershed boundary with an outlet at east-west coordinate 0.0 and north-south coordinate 5.77 on the topographic map shown in Figure 3.3a on page 106.  To print a copy of this map, click here.  (This is problem 3.2 on page 169.)

 

Problem 2

For the watershed in problem 1, estimate the watershed area in square feet, acres, and square miles.  Provide an estimate of the accuracy of the estimated area.  (This is problem 3.4 on page 169.) 

 

Problem 3

Measure the length of the watershed of problem 1.  What is the expected accuracy of the estimated length?  (This is problem 3.6 on page 169.)

 

Problem 4

Based on the area computed in problem 2, estimate the watershed length using the empirical formula L = 209A0.6, where L is in feet and A is in acres.  Compare the estimated length with the measured length (problem 3).  What is the error in the predicted value, and what are the possible reasons that the predicted value differs from the measured value?  (This is problem 3.8 on page 169.)

 

Problem 5

For the watershed of problem 1, compute the watershed slope.  Estimate the accuracy of the computed value.  (This is problem 3.10 on page 170.)
