Instructions for Science & Technology I, Rm. 126

NOTE: The equipment in this classroom includes a PC, a Document Camera, a VCR. and a Video Projector.

To adjust the lighting... 1. Adjust the lighting by flipping the control switches for the florescent lights and adjusting the dimmer switches (they are located on the wall to the RIGHT as you enter the classroom).
To turn on the video projector... 1. Press the "ON" button on the Control Box firmly to turn on the video projector mounted on the ceiling.
NOTE: Press the "ON" button again if you do not see a light coming through the projector's lense.
To use the PC… 1. Adjust the height of the keyboard rest by pressing the release lever to the LEFT of the keyboard rest and moving the keyboard rest up or down.
2. Press the "CTRL," "ALT," and "DEL" keys simultaneously.
3. Click the "OK" button on the next screen.
NOTE: The Logon Information box will appear.
4. Click in the text box after the "User name:" prompt and enter your user name (the same user name you use to log on to the MASON computer system to check your E-mail).
5. Press the "TAB" key.
6. Enter your password (assigned by the Electronic Classroom Office) and click on the "OK" button.
NOTE 1: If you do not know your password, call x3-3456 to obtain it.
NOTE 2: To change your password, contact George Sokol (gsokol@gmu.edu)
NOTE 3: If an "Error 53..." message appears on the screen, it means that you are connected to the back-up server.  You should not notice any difference in the PC's performance.
7. Press the "PC" button on the Control Box to project the computer's screen through the video projector.

 

To play a VHS cassette tape... 1. Press the "POWER" button on the VCR.
2. Press the "VCR" button on the Control Box to display the laptop screen through the video projector.
3. Insert the VHS tape into the VCR.
4. Press the "PLAY" button on the VCR (unless the tape starts to play automatically) or the "PLAY" button on the remote control.
6. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume controls on the Control Box.
7. Stop the tape by pressing the "STOP" button on the VCR or the "STOP" button on the remote control.
8. Rewind the tape by pressing the "REW" button on the VCR or the "REW" button on the remote control.
9. Remove the tape by pressing the "EJECT" button on the VCR.
To display the VCR counter on the projection screen... 1. Press the "ENTER/OSD" button.
NOTE: Pressing the "DISPLAY" button allows you to switch between the "counter" mode and the "time remaining" mode. If you press the "ENTER/OSD" button and "time remaining" displays, then press the "DISPLAY" button to return to the "counter mode."
To reset the counter on the VCR... 1. Press the "C.RESET" button (also labeled "CANCEL").

 

To use the Samsung document camera to project pages in books, objects, or your handwritten notes… 1. Press the release lever at the base of the camera arm towards you until the camera arm releases.
NOTE: The release lever is a little stiff so you must push it towards you firmly.
2. Bring the camera arm up until it locks into place.
3. Swivel the camera until it points towards the projection surface.
4. Press the "POWER" button located on the far LEFT side of the Control Panel.
5. Press the "DOC CAMERA" button on the Control Box to display the document camera screen through the video projector.
6. Press the "LAMP" button on the document camera (next to the "POWER" button) to turn on the FRONT LIGHTS (located on either side of the projection surface).
NOTE: The three "LAMP" settings are "OFF," "FRONT LIGHTS" and "BACK LIGHTS" so you may have to press the "LAMP" button more than once for the correct setting.
7. Place whatever you want to project on the projection surface.
8. Adjust the magnification of the picture by pressing the "ZOOM" buttons.
9. Adjust the focus of the picture by pressing the "FOCUS" buttons.
10. Adjust the clarity of the picture by pressing the "TONE" button. You will see either "image" or "text" flash on the screen each time you press the button.

NOTE: The two "TONE" settings are "IMAGE" and "TEXT." If your picture is primarily text, then select the "TEXT" setting. If your picture has graphics, then select the "IMAGE" setting.

11. Adjust the brightness of the picture by pressing the "IRIS" buttons.
To scroll down or across the picture while using the Samsung document camera... 1. Press the "MODE" button (to specify the resolution of the display) and select either "XGA" (1024 x 768), "SVGA" (800 x 600), or "VGA" (640 x 480).
NOTE: The SXGA mode will not allow you to scroll.
2. Press the "FULL/SCROLL" button to turn the green light off.
3. Press the control arrows to scroll down or across the picture.

 

To use the Samsung Document Camera to project overhead transparencies or slides...

 

 

1. Press the release lever at the base of the camera arm towards you until the camera arm releases.

4. Press the "DOC CAMERA" button on the Control Box to display the document camera screen through the video projector.
5. Press the "LAMP" button on the document camera (next to the "POWER" button) to turn on the BACK LIGHTS (located on either side of the projection surface).
NOTE: The three "LAMP" settings are "OFF," "FRONT LIGHTS" and "BACK LIGHTS" so you may have to press the "LAMP" button more than once for the correct setting.
6. Place the overhead transparency or slide that you want to project on the projection surface.
7. Adjust the magnification of the picture by pressing the "ZOOM" buttons.
8. Adjust the focus of the picture by pressing the "FOCUS" buttons.
9. Adjust the clarity of the picture by pressing the "TONE" button. You will see either "image" or "text" flash on the screen each time you press the button.

After class...
Step 1: Turn off the projector by pressing the "OFF" button on the Control Box.
Step 2: Exit the software running on the PC or MAC correctly (VERY IMPORTANT!!).
NOTE: If you are using the PC, click on "START" to open the Start menu and then click on "SHUT DOWN."  If the option in the box is NOT "log off" then click on the drop-down arrow, select it and click on the "OK" button. Please DO NOT shut down the computer.
Step 3: Leave all the equipment "ON."
Step 4: Remove any floppy disks, Zip disks, VHS tapes, or CD’s from the equipment.
Step 5: Make sure the classroom doors are closed securely.
