Using Robinson Hall, Rm. A249

During class...
To play a VHS tape… 1. Unlock the padlock on the black cabinet.
2. Align the number wheels on the padlock to the correct combination.
3. Hold the curved bar with your LEFT hand and the padlock body with your RIGHT hand and push them towards each other to open the lock.
4. Move the number wheels so no one else will see the combination. 
5. Remove the large gray remote control from the cabinet.
6. Press the "ON" button on the remote control while pointing it towards the video projector mounted on the ceiling.
7. Press the "INPUT" button on the remote control while pointing it towards the video projector until "INPUT 3" appears on the projection screen.
8. Flip the green "MAIN POWER" switch to the "ON" position.
9. Press the "POWER" button on the VCR.
NOTE: If the VCR power does not come on, then make sure 1) the "MAIN POWER" switch is "ON" and 2) the power cord from the black cabinet is plugged into an outlet.
10. Insert the tape and press the "PLAY" button on the VCR.
11. Adjust the volume by pressing the (+ ) or (-) "VOLUME" buttons on the gray remote control while pointing it towards the video projector.
12. Stop the tape by pressing the "STOP/EJECT" button on the VCR.
13. Rewind the tape by pressing "REW" on the VCR.
14. Remove the tape by pressing the "STOP/EJECT" button on the VCR.
To connect your laptop to the Internet… 1. Unlock the padlock on the black cabinet (mounted on the wall near the door).
2. Align the number wheels on the padlock to the correct combination.
3. Hold the curved bar with your LEFT hand and the padlock body with your RIGHT hand and push them towards each other to open the lock.
4. Move the number wheels so no one else will see the combination. 
5. Flip the green "MAIN POWER" switch to the "ON" position.
6. Connect your laptop's power cable to your laptop.
7. Insert the power plug into the electrical outlet (located on the FRONT wall).
8. Connect the15-pin VGA cable connected to the panel on the FRONT wall into the "VIDEO OUT" connection on your laptop (often the correct connection is the only one where it fits).
9. Plug one end of a network cable into your laptop (some laptops come with a special adapter that links the laptop to the network cable).
10. Plug the other end of the network cable into the network jack with the red tab above it (located on the FRONT wall to the LEFT of the VGA cable connection).
NOTE: You must set up your laptop to dynamically grab an IP address when you turn on your laptop. If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, contact

To display your laptop's screen on the projection screen in the front of the room… 1. Remove the large gray remote control from the cabinet.
2. Press the "ON" button on the remote control while pointing it towards the video projector mounted on the ceiling.
NOTE: If it does not come on the first time you try, get closer to the projector and try again.
3. Press the "INPUT" button on the remote control while pointing it towards the video projector until "INPUT 1" appears on the projection screen.
4. Turn on your laptop.
5. After the main Windows screen appears on your laptop, check to see whether you can see the same screen displayed from the video projector. If not, then check your manual to see what key or combination of keys you need to press to display the screen on both the laptop and projection screen.
NOTE: Often, you must press the [Fn] key and one of the function keys once or twice. Usually, this function key will be labeled "LCD/CRT" or have a picture of a monitor on it.
NOTE: If the image on the screen is not centered horizontally on the projection screen, adjust it by pressing the "HORIZONTAL POSITION" arrow buttons on the FRONT wall panel.

After class...

Step 1:

a)
Turn off the video projector by pressing the "OFF" button TWICE!!! on the gray remote control while pointing it at the video projector.

NOTE: The message "Turn Power Off? Yes: Press Again No: Please Wait" will appear.
b) Press the "OFF" button on the gray remote control a second time.
Step 2: Place the gray remote control in the cabinet.
Step 3: Turn off the VCR by pressing the "POWER" button.
Step 4: Flip the green "MAIN POWER" switch in the cabinet to the "OFF" position.
Step 5: Replace the padlock on the black cabinet.
