Using Lecture Hall, rm. 1

Before class...

 

Step 1: Unlock the outside door to the room by entering your code into the Omni lock and prop it open so the students can enter. (When you close the door, it will lock automatically.)

 

1. Press the "CLR" button on the Omni lock panel.

 

2. Enter your code.

 

3. Press the "CLR" button again.

 

A green light on the panel will flash.

 

4. Immediately turn the doorknob to the RIGHT and pull open the door.

 

5. Lower the doorstop so the door will remain open for your students to enter.

 

 

Step 2: Turn on the lights.

 

1. Flip the light switches up on the LEFT side of the wall facing you as you walk through the door.

 

2. Walk down the stairs and onto the stage behind the Instructor Console.

 

3. As you face the room from the stage, look for two knobs to your LEFT on the wall.

 

4. Set the LEFT knob labeled "ON" to "1" and then press it "IN" as you turn it counterclockwise (as far as it will go) to turn on the other lights in the room.

 

 

Step 3: Set up the Wireless Microphone

 

1. Remove the Wireless Microphone from the center compartment of the Instructor Console (near the Crestron Touch Panel).

 

2. Attach the battery pack to your belt or waistband (using the clip on the back of the pack).

 

3. Attach the microphone to your clothing (near your neckline).

 

4. Push the "POWER" switch on the battery pack to the "ON" position.

 

5. Adjust the Microphone volume by pressing the "MAX" button to turn it "UP" or pressing the "MIN" button to turn it "DOWN" (located on the sound equipment in the RIGHT side of the Instructor Console).

 

Troubleshoot: If the microphone does not appear to be working...

1. Check to make sure that the power switch for the sound equipment is flipped to the "ON" position.

2. Replace the battery in the microphone's battery pack (spare batteries are located in a clear plastic container on the shelf in front of the Touch Panel).

 

Step 8: Adjust the projection screen.

 

1. Move the projection screen up or down by using the "UP", "DOWN," and "STOP" control buttons behind the wall next to the Instructor Console.

 

 

Step 9: Adjust the lighting as needed.

 

1. Turn off the stage lights, by setting the "OFF" knob (on the wall to the LEFT as you face the Console) to "9" and pressing it "IN" and then setting the "OFF" knob to "11" and pressing it "IN."

 

2. Turn off the fluorescent lights over the students, by setting the "OFF" knob to 1, 2, 3, and 4, and pressing the "OFF" knob "IN" after each setting.

 

3. Turn off the incandescent lights above the students, by setting the "OFF" knob to "10," and then pressing the "OFF" button "IN."

 

 

Step 10: Turn on the projector.

 

1. Press "ON" under "VIDEO PROJECTOR" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

 

NOTE: The projector will display video from the computers, VCR, document camera, or laser disk player.

During class...
To display a computer screen (MAC or PC) on the video projector...

1. Press "SELECT SOURCE" on the Touch Panel.

2. Press "MAC" OR "PC" on the option diagram that appears.

NOTE: If you select "MAC," you may have to move the mouse to "wake it up."

CAUTION: Use the appropriate keyboard and mouse for the computer you have selected.

NOTE: The power on the MAC and PC equipment should be left "ON."

NOTE: If you select "PC," you will need to log on.

1) Press the "CTRL"  "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time.

2) Click in the text box after the "User name:" prompt and enter your user name (the same user name you use to log on to the MASON computer system).

3) Press the "TAB" key.

4) Enter your password and click on the "OK" button.

CAUTION: Be careful not to press "BLANK SCREEN" on the Touch Panel UNLESS you WANT to blank out the image on the projector screen (to check your personal E-mail for example).

To connect a laptop for audio, the Internet, and to display on the video projector...

1.  Connect your laptop's power cable to your laptop.

2. Insert the power plug into the power strip (located to the left of the monitor).

3. Connect the 15-pin VGA cable into the "VIDEO OUT" connection on your laptop (often the correct connection is the only one where it fits).

4. Plug the network cable into your laptop (some laptops come with a special adapter that links the laptop to the network cable). (This cable is also located to the left of the monitor.)

 

To connect a laptop for audio, the Internet, and to display on the video projector (cont'd)...

5. Plug the audio cable into the "AUDIO OUT" connection on your laptop.  (Often, this connection has a picture of headphones next to it.  Check your laptop's manual if you are not sure where it is located.)

6. Press "SELECT SOURCE" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

7. Press "AUX" on the Source Selection menu that appears.

To play an audio CD...

 

 

 

1. Insert a CD into the CD Player (the second piece of equipment on the RIGHT side of the Instructor Console) by pressing the "OPEN/CLOSE" button, placing the CD(s) on the CD holder, and pressing the "OPEN/CLOSE" button again.

2. Press the CD Changer button on the sound equipment (the third piece of equipment on the RIGHT side of the Instructor Console).

3. Press "MENU" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

4. Press "AUDIO CD" on the Source Selection menu.

5. Press "PLAY" on the Touch Panel.

6. Adjust the volume by pressing the "MIN" or "MAX" buttons immediately to the right of the "CHANNEL SELECT" buttons on the sound equipment.

7. Press "STOP" on the Touch Panel to stop the CD.

8. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button on the CD Player to remove the CD(s).

 

To play a VHS cassette tape...

 

1. Insert a VHS cassette tape into the VCR (the second piece of equipment located in the Instructor Console's RIGHT cabinet).

NOTE: Pull open the front cover on the VCR to expose the slot for the tape.

2. Press "SELECT SOURCE" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

3. Press "VCR" on the Source Selection menu that appears.

4. Press "MENU" and select VCR again.

5. Activate the audio by pressing the "CONSOLE" button under "CHANNEL SELECT" on the sound equipment (in the RIGHT side of the Instructor Console).

6. Press "PLAY" on the Touch Panel.

7. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume controls on the Touch Panel VCR screen or pressing the "MIN" or "MAX" buttons on the sound equipment.

8. Stop the tape by pressing "STOP" on the Touch Panel.

9. Rewind the tape by pressing "REW" on the Touch Panel.

10. Remove the tape by pressing the "EJECT" button on the VCR.

To play an audiocassette tape...

1. Place an audiocassette tape into the Audiocassette Player (on the RIGHT side of the Instructor Console) by pressing the "EJECT" button and inserting it into the holder.

2. Activate the audio by pressing the "CASSETTE" button under "CHANNEL SELECT" on the sound equipment.

3. Play the tape by pressing the "PLAY" button on the Audiocassette Player.

4. Adjust the volume by pressing the "MIN" or "MAX" buttons on the sound equipment.

5. Stop the tape by pressing "STOP" button on the Audiocassette Player.

6. Rewind the tape by pressing "REWIND" on the Audiocassette Player.

7. Remove the tape by pressing the "EJECT" button on the Audiocassette Player.

To play a laser disk...

1. Insert a laser disk into the Laser Disk Player (the third piece of equipment located in the Instructor Console’s RIGHT cabinet) by pressing the "OPEN/CLOSE" button on the Laser Disk Player, placing the disk on the holder, and pressing the "OPEN/CLOSE" button again.

2. Press "SELECT SOURCE" on the Touch Panel and then select "LASER DISC" from the Source Selection menu.

3. Press "MENU" and then press "LASER DISC" on the Source Selection menu.

 

To use the Canon document camera to project pages in books, objects, or your handwritten notes…

4. Activate the audio by pressing the "CONSOLE" button under "CHANNEL SELECT" on the Sound Controller.

5. Press "PLAY" on the Touch Panel.

6. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume controls on the Touch Panel Laser Disc screen or pressing the "MIN" or "MAX" buttons on the Sound Controller.

7. Press "STOP" on the Touch Panel to stop the laser disk.

8. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button on the Laser Disk Player to remove the laser disk.

1. Press "DOCUMENT CAMERA" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

2. Lift up the lamp arms so that one is to the RIGHT and the other is to the LEFT of the projection surface.

3. Press the release lever next to the camera arm and bring the camera arm up so it is perpendicular with the projection surface.

4. Flip the "POWER" switch on the LEFT side of the projection surface to the "ON" position.

5. Press the "LIGHTS" button on the lower RIGHT-hand corner below the projection surface to turn "ON" the two lights above.

6. Place whatever you want to project on the projection surface.

7. Press the "ZOOM" button "TELE" to bring the camera in closer or press the "WIDE" button to move the camera farther away (to the left of the "LIGHTS" button).

8. Press the "NEAR" "FAR," or "AUTO FOCUS" buttons (to the left of the "ZOOM" buttons) to adjust the focus of whatever you want to display.

9. Turn the "EXPOSURE" knob (to the left of the "FOCUS" buttons) until the image is as bright or as dark as you desire.

10. Turn the "DETAIL" knob (to the left of the "EXPOSURE" knob) to adjust the picture quality.

11. Press the "B/W" button if you are projecting black and white images (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

12. Press the "NEGA" button if you want to reverse the image (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

 

To use the Canon document camera to project overhead transparencies or slides...

1. Press "DOCUMENT CAMERA" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

2. Press the release lever next to the camera arm and bring the camera arm up so it is perpendicular with the projection surface.

3. Lift up the lamp arms so that one is to the RIGHT and the other is to the LEFT of the projection surface.

4. Flip the "POWER" switch on the LEFT side of the projection surface to the "ON" position.

5. Press the "BACK LIGHTS" button (in the lower RIGHT-hand corner below the projection surface) to turn "ON" the lights underneath the projection surface.

6. Place the overhead transparency or slide that you want to project on the projection surface.

NOTE: Overhead transparencies should not be larger than 8 1/2" X 11" and the characters should have a point size of at least 18. Also, limit the number of lines on a transparency to eight to make it easier for students to read.

7. Press the "ZOOM" button "TELE" to bring the camera in closer or press the "WIDE" button to move the camera farther away (to the left of the "LAMP" button).

8. Press the "NEAR" "FAR," or "AUTO FOCUS" buttons (to the left of the "ZOOM" buttons) to adjust the focus of whatever you want to display.

Troubleshoot: If the image does not display…

Press the "FAR" button to enlarge the display (the last person to use the Canon Document Camera may have "zoomed in" for a slide).

9. Turn the "EXPOSURE" knob (to the left of the "FOCUS" buttons) until the image is as bright or as dark as you desire.

10. Turn the "DETAIL" knob (to the left of the "EXPOSURE" knob) to adjust the picture quality.

11. Press the "B/W" button if you are projecting black and white images (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

12. Press the "NEGA" button if you want to reverse the image (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

 

 

After class...

 

Step 1: Turn off the projector by pressing "OFF" under "VIDEO PROJECTOR" on the Touch Panel Main menu.

 

Step 2: Exit the software running on the PC or MAC correctly (VERY IMPORTANT!!).

 

NOTE: If you are using the PC, click on START to open the Start menu, click on "Log Off…" and then click on the "Yes" button when the question "Are you sure you want to log off?" appears. PLEASE DO NOT SHUTDOWN THE COMPUTER.

 

Step 3: Remove any floppy disks, Zip disks, VHS tapes, laser disks, CDs, or audiocassette tapes from the equipment.

 

Step 4: Leave the power for the equipment in the Instructor Console "ON."

 

Step 5: Push the "POWER" switch on the Wireless Microphone battery pack to the "OFF" position and return the microphone and battery pack to the center compartment of the Instructor console (near the Touch Panel).

 

Step 6: Lift up the doorstop and close the classroom doors securely making sure they are locked.
