Instructions for Using Enterprise, rm. 178

NOTE: The equipment in this classroom includes a PC, a MAC, connections for a Laptop,
a Document Camera, a Wireless Microphone, a VCR, and a Video Projector.

To unlock Omni lock on the wall to the right of the door… 1. Press the "CLR" button on the Omni lock panel.
2. Enter your code.
3. Press the "CLR" button again.
A green light on the panel will flash and you will hear the lock open.
4. Immediately pull open the door.
To adjust the projection screen... 1. Push the SILVER switch up or down (located on the front wall to the LEFT of the projection screen as you are facing the front).
To adjust the lighting... 1. Adjust the lighting using the switches for the florescent lights and/or the incandescent lights (located to the RIGHT of the projection screen).
NOTE: To use the incandescent lights...

a) press the "ON/OFF" button if the green light on the button is not "ON,"

b) push the "MASTER" switch all the way up, and

c) adjust the next three switches until you have the lighting you want.

To use the wireless microphone... 1. Attach the battery pack to your belt or waistband (using the clip on the back of the pack).
2. Attach the microphone to your clothing (near your neckline).
3. Move the "MUTE-ON" switch on the battery pack to "ON."
4. Move the "OFF-POWER" switch on the battery pack to "POWER."
To turn on the video projector... 1. Press the Touch Panel to "wake it up" if the screen is dark (the Touch Panel is located in the RIGHT corner of the room as you face the front).
2. Press Projector "ON" on the Touch Panel.
To use the PC… 1. Adjust the height of the keyboard rest by pressing the release lever to the LEFT of the keyboard rest and moving the keyboard rest up or down.
2. Press the "CTRL," "ALT," and "DEL," keys simultaneously.
3. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the "Welcome" window.
NOTE: The Log On to Windows box will appear.
4. Click in the text box after the "User name:" prompt and enter your user name (the same user name you use to log on to the MASON computer system to check your E-mail).
5. Press the "TAB" key.
6. Enter your password (assigned by the Electronic Classroom Office) and click on the "OK" button.
NOTE 1: If you do not know your password, call x3-3456 to obtain it.
NOTE 2: To change your password, contact George Sokol (gsokol@gmu.edu)
NOTE 3: If an "Error 53..." message appears on the screen, it means that you are connected to the back-up server.  You should not notice any difference in the PC's performance.
To use the MAC... 1. Adjust the height of the keyboard rest by pressing the release lever to the LEFT of the keyboard rest and moving the keyboard rest up or down.
2. Put the MAC keyboard and mouse on the keyboard rest.
3. Press MAC on the Touch Panel.

 

To project the PC or MAC or PC laptop screen on the video projector...

 

 

1. Turn on the video projector (mounted on the CEILING in front of the room) so it will display the PC or MAC screen   by...

a) pressing the Touch Panel to "wake it up" if the screen is dark (the Touch Panel is located in the RIGHT corner of the room as you face the front).

b) pressing Video Projector "POWER ON" on the Touch Panel.

2. Press "PC," "MAC," or "LAPTOP" on the Touch Panel.
To connect a laptop for audio, the Internet, and to display on the video projector... 1. Connect your laptop's power cable to your laptop.
2. Insert the power plug into the power strip in the Instructor Console.
3. Connect the 15-pin VGA cable (located to the RIGHT of the monitor) into the "VIDEO OUT" connection on your laptop. Often, the correct connection is the only one where it fits.
4. Plug the network cable into your laptop (some laptops come with a special adapter that links the laptop to the network cable). (This cable is also located to the RIGHT of the monitor.)
5. Plug the audio cable into the "AUDIO OUT" connection on your laptop (located to the RIGHT of the monitor).  (Often, this connection has a picture of headphones next to it.  Check your laptop's manual if you are not sure where it is located.)
6. Press "LAPTOP" on the Touch Panel.
7. After the main Windows screen appears on your laptop, check to see whether you can see the same screen displayed from the video projector. If not, then check your manual to see what key or combination of keys you need to press to display the screen on both the laptop and projection screen.
NOTE: Often, you must press the [Fn] key and one of the function keys once or twice. Usually, this function key will be labeled "LCD/CRT" or have a picture of a monitor on it.

 

To play a VHS cassette tape...

 

 

1. Turn on the video projector (mounted on the CEILING in front of the room) so it will display a VHS tape by...

a) pressing the Touch Panel to "wake it up" if the screen is blank (the Touch Panel is located in the RIGHT corner of the room as you face the front).

b) pressing Projector "ON" on the Touch Panel.

2. Press "VCR" on the Touch Panel.
3. Press the "POWER" button on the VCR.
4. Insert the VHS tape into the VCR.
5. Press "PLAY" on the Touch Panel (unless the tape starts to play automatically).
6. Adjust the volume by pressing the "UP" and "DOWN" volume controls on the Touch Panel.
7. Pause the tape by pressing "PAUSE" on the Touch Panel.
8. Stop the tape by pressing "STOP"on the Touch Panel.
9. Rewind the tape by pressing "REWIND" on the Touch Panel.
10. Remove the tape by pressing "EJECT"on the Touch Panel.

 

To use the Canon document camera to project pages in books, objects, or your handwritten notes…

 

 

1. Turn on the video projector (mounted on the CEILING in front of the room) so it will display the image from the document camera  by...

a) pressing the Touch Panel to "wake it up" if the screen is blank (the Touch Panel is located in the RIGHT corner of the room as you face the front).

b) pressing Projector "ON" on the Touch Panel.

2. Press "PRESENTER" on the Touch Panel.
3. Press the release lever next to the camera arm and bring the camera arm up so it is perpendicular to the projection surface.
NOTE: Lower the keyboard rest and pull out the shelf that the document camera is sitting on if necessary.
4. Lift up the lamp arms so that one is to the RIGHT and the other is to the LEFT of the projection surface.
5. Flip the "POWER" switch on the LEFT side of the projection surface to the "ON" position.
6. Press the "LIGHTS" button on the lower RIGHT-hand corner below the projection surface to turn "ON" the two lights above.
7. Place whatever you want to project on the projection surface.
TROUBLESHOOT: If the image does not display, press the "WIDE" button to enlarge the display (the last person to use the Canon Document Camera may have "zoomed in" for a slide).
8. Press the "ZOOM" button "TELE" to bring the camera in closer or press the "WIDE" button to move the camera farther away (to the left of the "LIGHTS" button).
9. Press the "NEAR" "FAR," or "AUTO FOCUS" buttons (to the left of the "ZOOM" buttons) to adjust the focus of whatever you want to display.
10. Turn the "EXPOSURE" knob (to the left of the "FOCUS" buttons) until the image is as bright or as dark as you desire.
11. Turn the "DETAIL" knob (to the left of the "EXPOSURE" knob) to adjust the picture quality.
12. Press the "B/W" button if you are projecting black and white images (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).
13. Press the "NEGA" button if you want to reverse the image (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

 

To use the Canon Document Camera to project overhead transparencies or slides...

 

 

1. Turn on the video projector (mounted on the CEILING in front of the room) so it will display the image from the document camera  by...

a) pressing the Touch Panel to "wake it up" if the screen is blank (the Touch Panel is located in the RIGHT corner of the room as you face the front).

b) pressing Projector "ON" on the Touch Panel.

2. Press "PRESENTER" on the Touch Panel.
3. Push the release lever next to the camera arm and bring the camera arm up so it is perpendicular to the projection surface.
NOTE: Lower the keyboard rest and pull out the shelf that the document camera is sitting on if necessary.
4. Lift up the lamp arms so that one is to the RIGHT and the other is to the LEFT of the projection surface.
5. Flip the "POWER" switch on the LEFT side of the projection surface to the "ON" position.
6.  Press the "BACKLIGHT" button (in the lower RIGHT-hand corner below the projection surface) to turn "ON" the lights underneath the projection surface.
7. Place the overhead transparency or slide that you want to project on the projection surface.
NOTE: Overhead transparencies should not be larger than 8 1/2" X 11" and the characters should have a point size of at least 18. Also, limit the number of lines on a transparency to eight to make it easier for students to read.
8. Press the "ZOOM" button "TELE" to bring the camera in closer or press the "WIDE" button to move the camera farther away (to the left of the "LAMP" button).
9. Press the "NEAR" "FAR," or "AUTO FOCUS" buttons (to the left of the "ZOOM" buttons) to adjust the focus of whatever you want to display.
TROUBLESHOOT: If the image does not display, press the "WIDE" button to enlarge the display (the last person to use the Canon Document Camera may have "zoomed in" for a slide).
10. Turn the "EXPOSURE" knob (to the left of the "FOCUS" buttons) until the image is as bright or as dark as you desire.
11. Turn the "DETAIL" knob (to the left of the "EXPOSURE" knob) to adjust the picture quality.
12. Press the "B/W" button if you are projecting black and white images (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).
13. Press the "NEGA" button if you want to reverse the image (the indicator light will tell you whether or not this feature is active).

 

After class...
Step 1: Turn off the projector by pressing Projector "OFF" on the Touch Panel."
Step 2: Exit the software running on the PC or MAC correctly (VERY IMPORTANT!!).
Step 3: Leave all the equipment "ON."
NOTE: If you are using the PC, click on "START" to open the Start menu and then click on "SHUT DOWN."  Make sure the drop-down box says "Log off..." and NOT "Shutdown" before you click on "OK."
Step 4: Remove any floppy disks, Zip disks, VHS tapes, CD’s or DVD's from the equipment.
Step 5: Make sure the classroom doors are closed securely.
