Gangsters

Since immigrants became numerous  in the America.  They might feel that they were isolated from the main society by living as immigrants in another country.  Therefore, the immigrants from each country formed their own societies just like small countries in the United States.  At the same time, it motivated to form gangsters in each society.  I saw how their positions were in the societies during the past with pictures that were on Chicago Daily News.  One of the examples is the reputed gang name, Joe Saltis.Image, Source: original negative

This picture is found on Chicago Daily News with a description, [Mrs. Joe Saltis, wife of reputed gangster, looking toward the camera, sitting in the front seat of an automobile].  There is wife of Joe Saltis in front of the car.  Joe Saltis is not even there with her.  She also looks fancy with that dress.  I see three men in the picture; one next the door and other two on the left side of the picture.  It looks that she is being escorted.  I see the part of man's hat on the left side of the top which means that possibly, there should be more men than just picture shows.  There is a big house behind the car.  That could be Joe's house.  At this point, I guess that Joe had more than one car.  She might have her own time when Joe Saltis was doing his business.  Now, I can analyze that how much Joe Saltis was rich and eminent.

The News Describes [Reputed gangster Joe Saltis sitting in a room, looking to right of the camera, with Frank Koncil and an unidentified man sitting to his right].  I see five men around him.  They all dressed up so well.  One thing I can't understand is that Joe Saltis in the picture doesn't seem to look at the camera.  Other pictures in court room show the same thing.  He might do this on the purpose and I can't even find any specific facial expression of him that he feels guilty .  Viewers would excise compassion and think he is innocent by this kind of picture.

I actually couldn't find much information about him, but I found one thing that he was from Poland and related to "Beer War" during prohibition in Chicago.  There might be some kind of struggle for power among the gangs on selling beer illegally.

The gangs were appeared to be well respected.  All gangs including Joe Saltis are well dressed and escorted with their men in the pictures.  The pictures even show their participation in societies.  The pictures of their funerals are the same.  It seems that everyone in the society participated for gangs' funerals which means that the gangs contributed something for the societies and they were sympathized and respected by many people even after they passed away.  Various nationalities in the America formed various societies.  They might need people who could work for the society and gangs were like that.  I guess that gangs were like heroes at least in their societies even though they mostly worked illegally.
