“Moving Pictures, Books, and Child Crime”

Rowland C. Sheldon, “Moving Pictures, Books, and Child Crime,” Bookman 53, (May 1921), 242-44.

Rowland C. Sheldon was the General Secretary for the Big Brother Movement Inc, which sought to pair boys in need of advice and encouragement with an adult male roll model. This organization continues this work today, and includes Big Sisters.

Listen for Sheldon’s indictment of moving pictures as causing juvenile crime. Read about specific plans that the Big Brothers were implementing to create book lists appropriate for minds of boys, rather than sending them to the movies.
