As commander of the Army of Virginia, Pope coordinated the attacks at 2nd Manassas and Ox Hill. Both ended in defeat, and Pope lost his commission. On September 22, 1862, just weeks after Ox Hill, the Army of Virginia was combined with the Army of the Potomac.1
