Matt—owner, repairman
Matt Baker has been involved with guitars in one way or another for more than 25 years—as a player, member of several bands on both coasts, student (of music and of the histories of guitars), teacher, repairman, appraiser, instrument and music magazine reviewer, and finally in his current capacity as the owner of Action Music. Prior to opening Action Music, Matt managed several music stores and also operated a stringed instrument repair business. Matt received a repair certification in 1991 from Bryan Galloup’s Guitar Hospital in Big Rapids, Michigan. Matt spent most of his early and teenage years in Southern California, then crossed the country to Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, and finally Virginia. (back to top)

Bryan—sales manager, pedal sensei
Bryan Baxter manages the sales floor. He is an Arlington native and has been gigging on the local scene for 18+ years, first as a bassist and currently as the leader of the band, Koshari. If you're calling about a guitar you saw online, Bryan is the one to talk to. Bryan knows pedals inside and out and uses more than 20 in his own rig. If you have any (and we mean any) questions about pedals, Bryan is your man. (back to top)

Greg—intern, repair apprentice
Greg Clarke, Action's high-school intern, is our indispensable gopher, guitar polisher, and the one who helps keeps things clean and running so the rest of the staff can devote their attention to your needs. Greg is training with Matt in guitar repair and setups and will occasionally clean and restring guitars under Matt's close supervision. Greg is our resident punk rock guy who sings and plays guitar in the band, Coque Bloque ("cock block"!) (back to top)

Store Bio
Action Music was established in 1997 to provide the kind of music store that the owner (Matt) felt was missing in the local scene: a small, repair-oriented mom-and-pop shop that stocks a wide variety of parts as well as unique, interesting, and musically useful items. After working as a touring tech for a brief period, Matt felt that it would be nice to be able to find a store that, on top of the gear you expect to find, also stocks everything from flat-wound bass strings to hard-to-find vacuum tubes to felt ukulele picks.
The local community has responded, and with your support, Action Music is celebrating its 10th year in business. Action still strives to maintain a comprehensive parts and repair selection as well as new, used, and vintage guitars, amps, and effects. We add new lines each year. Even though we don't stock everything we wish we could, if we don't have it, we'll do our best to let you know where to find it. (back to top) |
