Grouping Images: Contact Sheets and On-Screen Slides

It is possible to create a web-page gallery of images by using a "contact sheet," a page of "thumbnails" (small images) in a group. A gallery could become part of a photographic essay project.

These images have been made into hypertext links to full-size images, as the cursor indicates. Some photograph-album programs offer this option as an automatic process, as do image-management programs; alternatively, a table (one row/multiple colums) can create the same effect by placing one small image in each cell .

Select the image and create a hyperlink just as one would for a word or phrase. In this example, from Dreamweaver®, the location of the larger image would be entered ([filename] or http://...) as the cursor indicates:

Repeating this procedure for each cell would create a gallery of small hyperlink images:

One can also create an on-screen slide show of images, either as a PowerPoint® presentation or by the use of image-managements software such as a photograph-album program:
