International Agencies

• International Regulations are set through treaties (called "conventions), that are coordinated through -- and occasionally originate with -- the International Maritime Organization , or IMO. A branch of the United Nations, the IMO is located in London. A warning to potential US customers: the IMO charges a substantial price for its publications.

• International Labor regulations are set through the International Labor Organization, or ILO. Also a branch of the UN, the ILO is based in Geneva. Of note to readers in the USA, during the Reagan Administration, the ILO got obstreperous enough that US government agencies were forbidden to participate.
