Mason English Department Chair's Challenge: 224 miles, 24 hours!

I am challenging myself to a bike ride called in "Randonneuring" (endurance bicycling) a fleche: 360 km (about 224 miles) in 24 hours.

I am challenging you to take this occasion to support the George Mason English Department. Donations to the  Department Foundation support current students through student fellowships, paid internships, and awards.  They also fund enhancements such as equipment for linguistics research, the Department's Text and Commmunity Program, English Department outreach, and more.
Here's how it works.  I ride on April 16 - 17, 2010.  You offer a pledge of support to the Department based on an amount per mile--for example $0.50. At $0.50 per mile
  • If I make it 50 miles you contribute $25.00
  • If I make it 100 miles you contribute $50.00
  • If I make it the whole way, you contribute $112.00 to the George Mason English Department.  I plan to make it the whole way!
Of course, if you prefer to pledge $0.10 per mile or $1.00 per mile, your contribution would change accordingly. You can make your pledge until April 15. But why wait, when you can pledge now?
