The following are "before and after" pictures based on a photograph of Buffalo Bill Cody from the American Memory Collection:

In order to achieve the "make-over" which is intended to produce a younger and better groomed version of Buffalo Bill, the following operations were performed:
- Mode changed to RGB color
- Cropped & resized to produce more of a head shot
- Horizontally flipped to show more attractive left profile
- Hue/Saturation adjusted to produce an "antique" tint
- Brightness/Contrast adjusted to produce a more defined image
- Clone Stamp tool used to trim hair, darken moustache, and remove unsightly wrinkles
The following is a family picture of cousin Carrie that was chosen to restore, vignette, and color:

The following operations were performed to produce the alterations in the photograph:
- The family photo was was first scanned to produce a digitized version
- It was then re-sized so that it was 206 px wide with a resolution of 72 px
- It was then cropped to eliminate some of the discolorization in the background
- The clone stamp tool was used to eliminate the discolorization on the face
- Auto-contrast was used and the color removed to eliminate the brown tint on the original
- It was then vignetted
- The brightness and contrast was adjusted to produce a more defined image
- Color was added using the fine brush tool. She was given blue eyes and brown hair and is dressed in a dark purple jacket with a slightly lighter purple sweater underneath.
A post-Civil War engraving was taken from Harper's Weekly:

The following operations were performed:
- The engraving was cropped to focus only on the image and the caption
- The color was removed to eliminate the brownish tint
- The background was eliminated and the shadows enhanced using the clone stamp tool
- Using the hue and saturation tool, a greenish tint was added to the image
