Janet Brown, Executive Director of the Election Commission, spoke on his thoughts on the history of Presidential Debates at a C-SPAN video conference for college students.

The video conference is a collaborative effort between C-SPAN, the Cable Center, Pace University, the University of Denver, and George Mason University.  The conference gave a forum for college students to ask questions to political news makers.
The video conference presented Brown’s favorite debate moments over the past couple of decades. However, the most interesting part of the discussion is the question and answer period with the students.

Questions were posed about the debates and who chooses the locations, moderators, and all the details that goes in to Presidential Debates.
. “Many of the debate details are thought up by the campaigns themselves,” said Brown about the campaigns. “However, scheduling debates is possibly the most difficult.”
You can review an edited version of the Video Conference on C-SPAN 3 on Fridays at 5PM.
“Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine, you sir are no Jack Kennedy.”

Brown discussed the conflicts with the Summer Olympics. One of her claims from Network Producers was that, “the Summer Olympics only happen every four years.” As opposed to the Presidential Elections that also happen every four years.

The video conference gave a personal, “behind the scenes” look at many of the debates, including the first Vice Presidential Debates in 1988. The famous “You, sir are no Jack Kennedy” line.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senator%2C_you%27re_no_Jack_Kennedyshapeimage_12_link_0
