Nowadays, we have many various types of musics. One of them, commonly called rap, appeals to different groups of listeners. Originally, African-American were the first one to start and compose this type of music. At first, the mistrel show introduced the first form of music, which is similar to modern rap, to the listeners in the 1890s. Then it evolved into rap that we have today. Though, there might be some differences between the music of the minstrel show and modern rap mainly on the instruments and complexity, they also have some similiar features as well. Both type of musics have provocative language, violencet related, and mainly concerning about the lives of African-American. They usually depict an ugly side of the society where corruption and crime are present.

The song from the 1890s named, "I dont allow no coon to hurt my feeling" is a perfect example of the early form of rap. It too is about black men and the problems they facing. The word coon here refers to a black man. The lyric begins with a few line describing about a man. He says that he is harmless and very much abhor violence and crime. Though, in the next few line, he describes how he was tricked by another black man and lost everything including his home and wife. Being angry of what had happened, he then describes about how he will get his vengence and how he will physically do some harm to those who trick him. Overally, this song is about vengece, betrayal, and violence.

In this mordern time, perhaps almost every one has heard of the name 2 pac. He was an artist who performed what they call gangsta music. All of his songs contain provocative message about gangs, crimes, hate and black people. Though the music was like that, 2 pac was very popular among the young listener. In his song "Hail Marry", 2 pac sings about a life living on the street where crime commonly happen. He says that it is a part of him and that money is the key to get a better life. He then go on telling how he would use that money on drugs and other illegal stuffs. Even though the title of the song sound religious, the message of the song is totally contradictory. This song is also about vengence, betrayal, and violence.

Rap involved from what in the late 1890s called mistrel show. Though many years had passed, rap still has the similarity with its ascendant. Violence, money, vengence are the common theme that people can find in those type of music.
