History

CT scans first appeared in 1974 and have made several developments towards the current model. It was first invented by a British engineer named Godfrey Hounsfield of EMI and by South African physicist Allan Cormack of Tufts University (Imaginis Corporation). They later received the Nobel Peace Prize for the advances of medicine and science (Godfrey Hounsfield - Wikipedia).

The earlier models would rotate in 360¡ in one direction for an image, and then take another on its return to the starting point (Harris). The machine would pause as the patient is glide upward into the machine in order for the next images to be taken (Radiological Society of North America, Inc). Often times, due to the anxiety level of the patient, images might be ruined or not as in focus resulting from to heavy breathing and movements caused by the patient.
