Adventure an Interactive Maze

"Adventure" is also Interactive Fiction and the first computer adventure game.  It uses text based commands to control a character through a simulated environment.  However, I do not believe that this IF should be classified as literature.  Although there is a loose plot and purpose to this game, it seems to be not much more than a technologically advanced online maze.

As you enter commands to walk north, south, east and west, the computer leads you through a trail of valleys and forests.  You are always in control of where you are going and what you are doing.  Other commands can be entered such as enter, open, and drink, as you make your way through this online adventure.  But the communication is extremely simple, for example: walk north. “you are in an open forest near both a valley and a road.”  These simple observations, although sufficient enough to lead you through the simulated environment do little in the way of eliminating meaningful and pertinent world interests.  Although “Adventure” is fun to play and novel in its ability to create dialogue between user and game, it is not literature.
