JUST SKATE

Why Do it? Quitting? Getting Started More Information

Skating can be an intense sport from the grace of figure skating to the game of hockey people will train hours and days and months just to be good at it.

Skating can also be a good recreational sport, many people will strap on a pair of skates just to feel the edges of their skates graze through the ice.  But why do so many people enjoy and strive for this sport?

Why Do it?

Skating takes a lot out of a skater wither they are hockey or figure, it takes:

  • hours of training
  • endless practicing
  • many injuries
  • and a lot of money

So what are some of the reasons why people are strapping on skates and heading off into the cold for hours?

  • Fun
  • Exercise
  • Stress Reliever
  • Challenge
  • Seeing my results pay off
  • I'm good at it.

Deividas Stagniunas an Ice dancer for Lithuania skating out of the Ashburn Ice House had this to say about why he trains for hours on end, "Skating is really hard, you have to come everyday and practice. But, once you go to competitions and see your results pay off its all worth it."

Chuck Abbot a 46 year old who has been recreationally skating for 3 years had a different reason for skating, " I enjoy skating, it's a stress releaser and a challenge, and I love a challenge."

Grady Little a 21 year old hockey player who just finished a season of Juniors in Texas said he loves skating for the " adrenalin rush."

Skating can be fun, a stress reliever, an adrenalin rush and a place to clear your thoughts all rolled into one

Katie Lange a coach at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex and the Ashburn Ice House said that skating is a place no matter your age where you can just be skating and just thinking of that one thing, it's a place you go to where your mind is not thinking of anything else but skating, "its just you and the ice. The good always overrides the bad while you out on the ice."
