JUST SKATE

Why Do it? Quitting? Getting Started More Information

Getting Started

So how do you get started skating?  Wither you are 3 years old or do not want to claim your real age there are many ways to get started:

  • Public Skating
  • Learn to Skate Classes
  • Birthday Parties
  • Private Lessons

April Bellas a 16 year old figure skating from the Ashburn Ice House perked up and answered quickly "My brothers took me out on a public skate with them once when I was six and I begged and pleaded and cried to skate again until my mom enrolled me into group lessons then things just went on from there."

Lange's eyes lit up when she said, "my mom used to take me public skating and I begged her and begged her for lessons until she could afford to give me lessons and I've been taking lessons since I was 9"

Lori McHugh a Figure Skating coach at the Ashburn Ice House and Kettler Capital Iceplex said that she loves to coach because its "such a pleasure for me to skate and I love coaching others and having them find the joy in it."

McHugh urges parents not to force their children to skate unless its what they really want. She said that "you need a goal and you need to want it" in order to be a good skater.

A lot of the adult skaters will take privet lessons to get more one-on-one time or take the adult learn-to-skate classes or the learn-to-play clinic for adult hockey players.  You should be skating 3-5 times a week if you are a more advanced skater and as often you like if recreational.

No matter how old you are skating can be an enjoyment or a challenge but if you're like Abbot who loves a challenge, or Stagninunas who likes to see his results pay off you should give ice skating: hockey, figure, or recreational a try.

Little may have thought about quitting "every day of his life" but he hasn't because he explained: "There's nothing else in the world like it."
