Scanlan says that many companies are looking for people with “Real world experiences.”
In the field of journalism advancement is not necessarily a system based upon ability or achievement according to Scanlan it is “The work you’ve done that determines your success in getting a job”
To apply at a newspaper job you simply

  • Include a resume
  • Samples of your stories called “clips”

Journalism classes also help to collect pieces of writing even if they are not published they are a good place to start.
