Chip Scanlan wrote an article entitled The First Peril: Fabrication which was published on Poynter.org.   This well constructed article offers advice on how to avoid plagiarism in today's journalism society.

With it being so easy to copy and paste word for word now a days plagiarism is easier then normal.

This article offers a few tips on how to maintain a good code of ethics

  • The writer must NOT invent (The writer should not make up information)
  • Writing the first draft without notes is one way to avoid plagiarism
  • Attribute everything
  • Paraphrase
