Location: ST II Room 268

· INFS 501, 515 and 590 or equivalent and some programming experience.

· The course has an individual project (not a group project) using socket libraries, aid students are expected to be able to program on their own.

· The objective of the project is for students to be introduced to network programming.

Course Text (required) 1 : Computer Networking, 3/e by Jim F. Kurose and Keith W. Ross (ISBN 0-321-22735-2) published by Addision-Wesley
Course Text (optional) 2 : Effective TCP/IP Programming: 44 Tips to Improve Your Network Programs by Jon C. Snader
Alternative Reference 1: Computer Networks and Internets by Douglas Comer (3rd edition)
Alternative Reference 2: Computer Networks, 4/E by Andrew Tanenbaum
Alternative Reference 3: Data and Computer Communication, by William Stallings. (6th edition)

Weights: five HW assignments 20%, Projects 20%, Midterm Exam 25%, Final exam 35%.
Late Submissions: Discouraged but allowed under exceptional circumstances with prior approval of the instructor.
Incompletes: No Incompletes will be given. Except extreme case
Honor Code Violations: All violators will be reported under all circumstances, and results in a course grade of F, in addition to any other penalties imposed by the university and/or the ISE department.
Two students submitting a common or significantly similar copy of homework is a honor code violation.

Class Meetings: Monday 07:20 – 10:00 PM in Robinson Hall RM B228
Instructor Office Hours: Monday 05:30 – 07:00 PM Rm 330 ST2 or by appointment
Examinations: All Examinations are in class, individual (no collaborations), closed book, neighbor and notes.
Project will be an individual or group of 2 max depending on class size.
