Tomb Raider

Game History

Tomb Raider is the 2013 reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise. It was published by Square Enix, the company best known for the Final Fantasy series, and developed by Crystal Dynamics. Unlike previous games in the franchise, this Tomb Raider is more of a survival-style game. It is also the first Tomb Raider game to have multiplayer features.

After a delayed release, Tomb Raider was released on March 5,2013 to critical acclaim and high sales(6.5 million copies as of early June 2014). The game was praised for its new characterization of Lara Croft and improved graphics and gameplay, though the multiplayer features were not as warmly received.

A line of comics written by veteran comics writer Gail Simone has been commissioned to continue the game's storyline into the next game. The sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was announced at the Microsoft presentation at E3 in mid June of 2014. It also has received and been nominated for several industry awards, including Best Action Game by E3, People's Choice-Best of E3, and Most Anticipated Game of 2013.
