Shorter is Better
The article Be Succinct! (Writing for the Web) by Jakob Nielson's discusses some tips for better web writing.
- Write shorter
Keep pages short to keep reader from having to scroll.
Readers don't want as much text on screens.
- scannability
Online readers are more impatient.
Readers skim instead of reading
Use web writing techniques to keep reader interested.
- Hypertext
Use links to show people or explain outside the article instead of words to explain something in the article.
Links can give information to those who want to know it.
DOn't use links to segment a long story.
Even with hypertext links use inverted pyramid.
