SPRING 2010
This page contains links to study guides for the BIOL452 Immunology lectures exams. Each study guide generally corresponds to material covered for each exam. Please note due to variations in the semester schedule, the material covered in the study guides may not be in the same order covered in the lectures.
HOW TO USE THE STUDY GUIDES
The most effective way to use these study guides is to learn the material covered in each lecture before trying to answer these questions. To LEARN this material it is best to do the following:
1. STAY CURRENT and KEEP UP!
2. ATTEND LECTURES - even though the lecture slides are available through the class listserv, THIS IS NOT a substitute for hearing the material first hand. Attending the lectures gives you the ability to put the material in YOUR OWN WORDS which makes it easier for YOU to learn. Remember the slides are my words and so may not be the best to study from. Attending the lectures also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions to HELP YOU further clarify the material at the time we are covering the topic.
3.
MAKE A REVIEW SHEET - for
each lecture make a numbered list of the topics, concepts and vocabulary
words/terms. It is best if you do this for each previous lecture BEFORE
attending the next lecture. If that is not possible it would be best if
you do this before TWO LECTURES have
gone by (this gives you the weekend to catch up.)
SUGGESTIONS:If you date the top of the list with the date of the lecture and the list is in the order covered in the lecture, this makes a very quick and easy study list of all of the material covered that day. You can indicate in the left margin G for glossary or F##.# for any figure that helps you with a concept or topic allowing for EASY REFERENCE to specific parts of the text book.
4. ASK
THE PROFESSOR - I am always
willing to meet with a student during office hours or by appointment. Phone
calls (703) 993-4031 and email (mcoss@gmu.edu)
also can be utilized to clarify any questions, however sometimes there
is no substitution for one on one meetings to help out. (I really am a
nice person and will not harm you if you come to my office!)
5. ONCE YOU HAVE LEARNED THE MATERIAL - NOW is the time to test yourself and go over the questions on the study guide. THE STUDY GUIDE WILL NOT HELP YOU if you don't know the material and try to FIND THE ANSWER in the textbook or in your lecture slides. You will not learn anything that way and you will waste your time. Additionally, you will only achieve an incredible level of frustration and irritation over the amount of material we are covering. Remember, my goal is for all of my students to learn the material which will result in a course grade that will make all parties concerned very happy.
