To subscribe to class mailing lists, you must have a computer account and access to Electronic Mail (e-mail). It is best to use your gmu email account. I have had numerous students have difficulty with non-GMU email accounts particullary the hotmail accounts with this system.  REMEMBER - you can only send and receive email from the class listserv with the account you use to subscribe to the listserv.

1.  Log in to your e-mail account and start (compse) a new e-mail.

2.  To subscribe** to the class mailing list, send an e-mail message TO: listserv@listserv.gmu.edu

3.  Type the following line as the ONLY message text:  subscribe BIOL452-001-L Your Name

Where "Your Name" is your Full Name

NOTE: DO NOT include any information in the SUBJECT area of the email - leave it blank

 ** NOTE: You will only send this first email to listserv@listserv.gmu.edu in order to subscribe to class email account.

For example: for the student "Iam Soconfused" to subscribe to the BIOL452-001-L class list, he would send an email to:

listserv@listserv.gmu.edu with the following message text: subscribe BIOL452-001-L Iam Soconfused

You will receive an e-mail with the subject as: "Command confirmation request". To complete enrollment in the email list you must click on the link. By subscribing to the list, you will receive messages sent to the class list by anyone on the class list (classmates or instructor).

By sending an e-mail to the class list, ALL subscribers will receive the email. This is a particularly helpful and useful tool especially around exam time. When you email the instructor a question, the answer will be sent out to everyone. That way EVERYONE in the class gets the same information. Remember NOT to send personal information (SSN, grades etc to the instructor using this email unless you don't mind everyone in the class knowing the information)

Sending a Message to all Subscribers of Your Class List:

To send an e-mail message to all subscribers to the list, send your email message to: BIOL452-001-L@listserv.gmu.edu

To UNSUBSCRIBE from the list, send an email to: listserv@listserv.gmu.edu with the following message text: unsubscribe BIOL452-001-L

BIOL452 Listserv Archives:

An advantage of the class listserv is that emails sent or received to the list are archived and available on the web but only if you have subscribed to the class listserv. Using Internet Explorer (NOTE - Netscape WILL NOT WORK!) go to: http://listerv.gmu.edu where you will be able to retrieve the emails by searching the BIOL452-001-L listserv archives.
