A Short Introduction

Dunapataj is a small, sleepy village about 50 miles or 90 kilometers south of Budapest, the capital and largest city of Hungary. With a small population of 4,000, Dunapataj is an ordinary, unassuming place. Ask most Hungarians about it, and they would not recognize the name.

There are a few things these days that draw visitors. The most famous is a local lake called Szelid, roughly four kilometers from the town center. Szelid is surrounded by restaurants, summer homes, and nightclubs. Visitors can take advantage of the excellent water slides. The water is curative.

Another attraction is the local paprika. Visit at the right time of year, and one will see houses covered with bright red peppers, which the locals will turn into paprika powder. Those who have tried the local batch will taste why it deserves its good reputation. Just outside of the town center, there is a paprika factory. The yard next to the factory is often filled with hundreds of bales of peppers.
