Tagging aids:

  • critical thinking
      • as you tag you have to make a stab at conceptualizing the content of the particular resource you are contemplating

  • reflection
      • as you tag, you need to think about what you have learned and how you might want to use what you have learned in the future (linking past and future learning)
      • as you tag more, you may realize that your original tags are not organizing as efficiently as you need, and that you need to group your tags, or re-name your tags, or retag some of your sources

  • understanding
      • of how information is organized in other contexts, such a library catalogue or article database
