Introduction
This virtual session of our seminar will include the submission of your Information Ecologies proposal, your reviewing of the information ecology proposals of two peers, and your revision of your Information Ecology proposal in the light of the feedback you receive.

As peer-reviewing within a community is an essential component of knowledge-sharing & knowledge –building, a virtual class offers each person an equal chance to participate in the process, no matter where s/he is.  Thus, I really do expect everyone in the learning community to function fully as both author and as reviewer on Wednesday.  I can give you as much help as you need, as long as you remember to ask me!

The Workshop & the Writing
The proposal guidelines do remind you to apply the ideas of Nardi & O’Day in justifying your choice of each of your possible information ecologies.  But you should also use their ideas, and the essential elements they identify, as a reviewer. If you are offering advice or suggestions for expansions, use relevant quotations and/or summaries from Nardi & O’Day to support your recommendations, for example.

Try to help your colleagues to see:

  • The full complexity of their chosen ecologies
  • New perspectives on their choices
  • Additional possibilities inherent in their choices

If you run into problems, or are unsure of what you need to do when, let me know as soon as possible.  I should be in my office, and online, throughout the whole seminar session, too.

Timetable
  • By 5-00 pm:
Post your Information Ecologies proposal & submit the link to your two peer reviewers or send them a copy of your Information Ecologies proposal

  • 5-00 pm to 7-10 pm
Complete your review of each proposal for which you are responsible and send/post (depending on the author’s preference) copies of your reviews to the authors and to me.

Think carefully about the medium you choose for your review: you may write your review, add comments to the existing proposal in the software on which you and your reviewing partners decide, record an audio or video review, use presentation software to communicate your review, and so on. Formats other than writing may be more useful to some authors, and is perhaps a question you might discuss with your reviewing partners.

  • By 10-00 pm (or earlier):
Post your revised Information Ecologies proposal and let me know it's complete.

Reviewing Schedule for this peer-review session
