Choose an Episode from Antigone and develop a 'transformed' performance, suitable for the number of people in your group, and for the now-knowledgeable audience (your colleagues and teachers). Remember that the transformation must involve a coherent interpretation of the play which you, as performers, can justify with reference to the text (and to historical context, if necessary). Think about the transformations you have seen this semester: the 'talk-show' version of Grimm Tales the class performed , the individual vision of Grimm Tales in Theater Space, the modernization of Romeo and Juliet by Baz Luhrman, and so on. You may want to think about editing the text, or inventing a provocative setting, or addressing the themes in an unusual way, or updating the issues to a contemporary setting (think of West Side Story) or incorporating mime, music, dance, costumes and props. Your imagination is your only limitation. You should be ready to perform your piece on exam. day, Friday, 14 May 1999, between 1-30pm and 4-15pm. We'll try to book the Johnson Center cinema to provide a more complex performance space, if you need it.
