ADVANCED WRITING
Research Paper -- Draft 1

This draft of your research paper should be a “regular” essay.  It does not need to have quotes in it. As a matter of fact, it should not have quotes in it.  Many students make the mistake of using quotes too often and too soon in their research papers. The main purpose of a research paper is to show your professor that you have thought about your topic and developed your own ideas about it. If you hadn in a paper that is a collection of quotes, you have not written a paper; rarther, you have cut and pasted ideas from others into a report.

You will add quotes in the second draft as supporting material for your idea.

This draft does not need to be word processed, but I sugggest doing so as it will make revisions between this and the other two drafts easier.
