Once upon a time, a young girl named Jessica discovered the city of Fairfax, Virginia, where she had applied and been accepted to George Mason University. This was the first time that she would attend a school taught by someone other than her parents, and she was excited to enjoy the things that she had never experienced before. Freedom! she thought happily, as she walked up the sidewalk into Harrison Hall, dragging a full, bright pink suitcase behind her.

 “Oh, Mom! I don’t know what to try first!” Jessica exclaimed in excitement as she entered her new, very tiny room. “Should I go to the library, or the frat house, or the Johnson Center, or the student union? Or I could just check out the main quad or—“

“Well, what about the church I saw just up the road?” her mother asked her, setting down a box full of books and CDs. Her father nodded approvingly as he set a new bible on the top of her dresser.

Mom,” Jessica whined, rolling her eyes. “I can see that later. Right now I want to go explore!”

After meeting her roommate, Layla, and making Jessica promise to go to church every weekend, her parents tearfully said goodbye to their only child and headed back to Ohio.
