Jessica decides to go to…

Glad to be free of her parents, Jessica consulted her map of the campus, deciding which buildings to check out first. Turning to Layla, who was already absorbed in organizing her massive CD collection, Jessica said, “Hey, I think I’m gonna go to the library…”

Layla paused, holding a CD, and looked up at her in disbelief. “The library?” She made a face. “Why would you want to go there? School hasn’t even started yet.”

Jessica hesitated, answering, “Well… I need to see if they have a book for one of my classes. I thought I’d try to get ahead before I’m overwhelmed with homework.”

Layla shrugged, dismissing her with a wave of a CD. “Okay. Do what you want, then…”

As Jessica made her way out of the room and down the hallway, she wondered how Layla expected to pass her classes if she was already planning on going to parties all the time. She walked across the sunny campus, and into the Fenwick library. Apparently, she wasn’t the only one who wanted to start studying early. As she looked around, she saw a few students with piles of books spread out on their tables. She found a cluster of computers and sat down at one, searching through the database to find the book she needed. After she had written down the location of the book, she walked towards the elevators she’d seen when she’d come in. She took the elevator up to the fourth floor, and it opened onto a room full of book stacks. As she looked around, she noticed there was no one there, except for one guy, who happened to be sitting in the middle of the very aisle her book happened to be located in.

She squeezed past him with a quiet “Excuse me”, and climbed onto the step stool. She stretched her arm up, barely able to grasp the book on the top shelf. Being short was not fun. Before she knew, her hand had slipped, the book was falling, and was aimed directly at the guy sitting on the ground studying.

“Oh, my god! Watch out!” Jessica exclaimed.

 OR

Jessica put her hands over her mouth, gasping as the book made contact with his head.
