The "Ghost in me" as Ulmer describes Black Elk's experience, "The experience of thought in orality is that of hearing a voice outside as spoken by a god. This ghost migrates inside the body in the experience of literacy; psyche - literally, the ghost in me. (Ulmer, 203)
This photo is an attempt to show my general mood. I have always tended towards the darker side of things, like mysteries. This photo was taken in the Tucson desert at night. I can feel the silence, and smell the mesquite mixed with rock and sand and.....no words really explain that smell - but I can feel it in this photo.
Walking in the desert at night, searching through the pathways and shadows...The silence, only an occasional owl, the stars, the mountains, the light sandy bottom of the desert. Every living thing in the desert has a shield around it - a protective outer layer ready for battle. Everything has secrets. Cacti hide water in their trunks, fruit grows hidden between their spines, owls hide inside saguaros.
It is a place of secrets and survival.
